Forum: Security and Risk Management

Internal Theft and Fraud

Wednesday 24 March

Internal theft and fraud are New Zealand’s fastest growing crime forms, and the manufacturing industry is no exception. Sometimes it’s a lone employee, but often it’s collusive, well-organised, and higher up the managerial ladder – and successful. It is far more widespread and costly than many businesses realise. Analyses of most cases show how easily those crimes could/should have been prevented (or detected much earlier). In ‘tough times’, loss prevention is one of the best means of boosting profit-levels.

This Forum offers a thought-provoking overview of the risks, facts, types, and techniques of internal crime in the manufacturing and distribution sectors, with actual case histories, defensive strategies and guidelines, and many options for improving deterrence, prevention and detection. This is not just for those who think they may have ‘issues’, but also for those wanting to prevent them.

This Forum will cover many relevant topics in this field, including:
  • Challenges and realities in industrial security management and crime-risk control.
  • Pro-active’ security disciplines, methodologies, and approaches.
  • Vulnerability, the ‘soft target’ syndrome, and typical management ‘failure factors’.
  • Internal theft/fraud forms, techniques, and ‘indicators’ in production and the supply chain.
  • Guidelines for reviewing and assessing the potential for crime (and security-effectiveness) in your business.
Presented by Steve Davis Managing Director of Davis Consulting.
